• The tour depends on weather and sea conditions. In strong wind or when sea restrictions are in force, departure may be rescheduled or the trip postponed.
• It is cooler and windier on the water than on shore — bring a light jacket even on a warm day.
• Comfortable clothing and flat shoes are recommended for boarding.
• Sun protection is advisable in summer, as deck space is largely unshaded.
• If you are prone to seasickness, the bay is generally calm, but sit towards the middle of the boat.
• Bring a strap for your phone or camera — the deck is open and the breeze is real.
The cruise itself lasts around 1 hour and 20 minutes, following the Baku coastline out into the bay and back. Your guide points out the landmarks as they come into view and explains how the waterfront has changed — much of what you are looking at, including the reclaimed land along the southern shore, did not exist twenty years ago.
The boat slows at the best vantage points. The clearest shot of the Flame Towers with the Old City beneath them comes from the middle of the bay, and the wide skyline view works best on the return leg. There is open deck space, so you are not shooting through glass.
