Private Abqora Wine Tour – Meysari Village Experience from Baku

Your driver collects you from your hotel at the time you have chosen. The route runs north-west through open hill country, and the landscape shifts steadily as you climb — dry plain gives way to grazing land and then to rows of vines on terraced slopes. The drive covers roughly 120–130 km and takes around two hours, with photo stops wherever the view is worth it.

At Meysari the vineyards are planted on slopes rather than flat ground, which is deliberate — drainage, sun exposure and cool nights all shape what ends up in the bottle. A short walk through the rows covers which varieties grow where and why: Azerbaijan's native grapes, among them the red Madrasa and the white Bayanshira, sit alongside international varieties that have adapted well to these conditions. In late summer and early autumn the fruit is on the vine and the harvest is under way, which is the most interesting time to see it.

The guided visit to the Abqora production facility follows the wine from arrival to bottle: sorting and pressing, fermentation in steel, ageing in oak, and the cellar where the bottles rest. The scale is modern and the equipment is current, so this is less a heritage tour than a look at how the industry is being rebuilt — the winery is part of a wider revival of Azerbaijani wine that has taken shape over the past two decades.

The tasting is the centrepiece. A selection of wines is poured and talked through — what grape, what style, what to notice — usually accompanied by local cheese, bread and light snacks depending on the package you choose. Tasting packages vary in the number and level of wines included, and are paid at the winery unless arranged in advance. Bottles can be bought on site, often at prices below what you would pay in the city.
