Private Alpaca Tour from Baku – Shamakhi Road Experience

Your driver will pick you up directly from your hotel lobby or designated accommodation. Settle into a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle as we set off for the tour.

Your driver collects you from your hotel at a time you choose. The road west out of Baku climbs steadily through the hills towards Shamakhi, and the landscape changes quickly — the dry coastal plain gives way to rolling green slopes, vineyards and grazing land, with the Greater Caucasus rising in the distance. The drive takes around 1.5–2 hours, with photo stops wherever the view is worth it.

The alpaca farm sits in open countryside off the Shamakhi road, and the setting does half the work — hills on every side, clean air, and considerably cooler temperatures than the city in summer. Alpacas are native to the Andes and were bred for thousands of years for their fleece, which is warmer and lighter than sheep's wool. They are herd animals, mild-tempered and naturally curious, and they have no upper front teeth, so feeding them from your hand is completely safe.

You have unhurried time here to feed the herd, get close for photographs and walk the grounds. Children are usually the ones who take longest to leave. Entrance to Alpaca Azerbaijan is paid on site and is not included in the tour price.

On the way back you can add a stop, depending on time and interest. The Juma Mosque in Shamakhi was founded in 743 AD and is among the oldest mosques anywhere in the Caucasus — a ten-minute detour for a building with twelve centuries of history behind it. Alternatively, the Meysari valley nearby is the heart of the country's wine region, and a winery visit with tasting can be arranged on request.

After completing the tour, your driver will comfortably transfer you back to your hotel or drop you off at your preferred central location in the city.
